Customer Review: Pathetic machine- even more pathetic customer helpline
I’ve had nothing but trouble with this machine since I bought it (not from Amazon). There is at least a 40 second delay after pushing any command buttons. Nightmare when you want to record anything improptu..by the time you’ve got an empty DVD in and waited for machine to acknowledge it and then press the record button, programme is almost over!! Now after my warranty has run out, its decided to retain one of my DVD, the deck won’t open at all. Tried the customer helpline, after the long laborious menu,it eventually tells me the tel no. has changed, tried the new number and the message tells me to ring the original number… talk about going round in a circle! must have wasted three quid Think I’ll just buy a new DVD-recorder…certainly won’t be another Philips. I should have read customers’ reviews on this product before buying.
Customer Review: Disappointed
Bought mine in Nov’05…have been rather disappointed with it since. Wish I’d looked at reviews first, this item has put me off Philips products totally. My father-in-law has a dvd/video combi, the dvd refuses to play sometimes unless you give it a tap or turn it upside-down and try again. Very awkward to use, my wife is still unable to use it to record a program as its not straight forward at all. (no disrespect to the ladies but they are not normally technical minded about these things) Have set dvd’s to 4 hour recording, recordings are sometimes pixellated. There is no 3 hour record mode. Menus are awkward to navigate through. When Pdc is ON, it will not record the program I have set to record. When recording using Videoplus you still have to set the record mode, ie AV1, AV2,F-AV etc. The clock doesn’t set automatically when you switch on the mains plug, you have to manually set the clock if you want to set up a timed recording. It takes a long time to initialise when you switch it on. I did have trouble with it freezing up. The remote has to be pointing directly at the machine for it to work. Good points are it records onto dvd+ or - r/rw. Wouldnt buy another Philips product again.

These plug-in modules will allow you to remotely control just about any plug-in mains device. They are great for table lamps, radios, washing machines. Even use one to turn your pond fountain on and off for you ! There’s no re-wiring to do. Simply set the X10 address, un-plug the device you want to control, plug it into the module, and plug the module into your mains socket. You instantly have X10 control of the device. The Appliance Module is for higher rated lights and other household products like dish washers, kettles, etc. The Appliance Module can switch loads of up to 13 Amps. Use in conjunction with an X10 transmitter like a IR7243 , HomeVision, CM12U, Mini Timer, Mini Controller , or SM10 . You can also use an RF based solution (HR10, MS13 , KR22, or SS13) as long as you also have a TM13U RF Receiver module.

Customer Review: Dissappointed
Had the unit for a few weeks now, have found it OK as far as recording to HDD, but thats only if I’m not watching anything else at the same time! As it interferes with the TV station that I’m watching. It is very slow at start-up, seems like ages before I can do anything! and the drive is a little noisy. I live in an area where there is very poor digital signal, so dont have alot of channels to view via the set, no ITV or CH4, and sometimes no BBC!… hope that will change in the future. In the meantime I have to record via the satelite, which defeats its object really!
Customer Review: Dissapointing
Sorry, but I have to go against the flow here. I found this machine both difficult to use and unreliable. So much so that I had to take advantage of Amazon’s excellent return policy. I now have a sony RDRHXD560S which I find simnplicity itself to use and excellent quality.
