Not a large book, or what you would expect from Waterstones. The main point of this book is the knowledge that is inside, it is to the point, and it isn’t needlessly fattened out with talk that is irrelevent.

This book is magic - straight to the point in ordinary english but by no means simple. It hits the nail on the head every time from equipment (on a budget or otherwise) to intelligent bushcraft. The writer speaks to YOU with passion about his trade and shares the secrets of getting that all important footage. I am a semi professional filmmaker dabbling in wildlife videography as a hobby at the mo and using the techniques within the book I got some great Kingfisher footage today - it was worth every single penny tenfold.

There is also lots of advice and resources if you wish to pursue a career in wild life filmmaking (check out his other book, it’s interesting reading).

If you are interested in wildlife and own a camcorder, it will bring a new dimension to your hobby. If you are a pro, I’m sure it will jog the memory of a few techniques you have forgotten.

Go buy it - there is no other book out there like it, and for 12 quid what have you got to lose.

As a keen amateur camcorder user with a passion for wildlife I’ve been looking for a book like this for years. It’s answered many questions, given me loads of new ideas and all in friendly language I can understand. Various technical matters that were confusing me have been explained and I now have a much clearer idea how the professionals do it. I’m already getting better results from my camcorder and have ideas for movies queuing up in my head. I’ve realised how previously I was just pointing my camcorder at wildlife and recording - now I am making movies!

I’ve even found myself contemplating a career in this field.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to get more out of their camcorder - especially if wanting to record wildlife/nature.

Customer Review: Great Motion, Terrible Greens, but Calibratable
There is a terrible problem with the green rendering on my set, both from digital cable, and fed from the Toshiba A35 HD-DVD player. There’s an overall green cast and very bright green artifacts in shadows that is so annoying the TV’s barely watchable. On the other hand, the motion rendering is fantastic. 1080P at 24 frames/second looks really smooth as does 720P sports broadcasts. Note Added Dec 2007: I finally had the set professionally color calibrated. Turns out both green and red are way off in this set’s color space as shipped from the factory. The good news is that a combination of service menu settings and the excellent color/gamma controls in this set got it back in line and it’s now amazing. I’d actually recommend getting any TV calibrated because the factory settings for all sets are way too bright and contrasty, which makes it basically impossible to do a side-by-side in a showroom.

Customer Review: T14A USB Digital Tuner
I found this little device to be very exciting. I live more than 35 miles from the transmitting stations in Chicago and I get all but two digital stations with the included antenna. Pros: The picture is crisp and clear. The antenma is small and compact and works well. You can record programs to your hard drive and view later. You can take still high resolution snap shots as the programs are played. The price is very reasonable. You get Wide Screen HD TV on your PC for a very small price. Cons: There is a capability to schedule recording to your hard drive, but with Win XP MCE I have, it does not work. I downloaded the lastest SW from their web site and the scheduling was fixed but the application is unstabe and hangs. So I stuck with the SW which came with it and live without the scheduled recording feature. Overall, I highly recommend buying this device!

This was actually a good piece of hardware, it does what it advertises. I picked up a couple of HD channels, ppl have been complaining about the software but i used Vista Media Center which accepted it with no hassle. Though it does get hot after a couple of hours of use, but that’s expected in a tuner.

Customer Review: Problem: time and date show default. Help Help
Hi i got one problem that my DVD-HR735, everytime i set the time and date in but when i switched off few hour and ON it back the Display LCD showing “AUTO” and asking to reprogramme TIme and date. So is it there Internal battery low or Faultly, but i try to open up and see the internal battery but unable to find it, when to do upgrade the frimware also same thing. HELP…..

If you have an hd ready tv then you should AVOID this player at all costs. Although it has an hdmi output it in theory should be capable of 1080i upconversion through dvd playback. It is NOT. The best this player can do is 576p contrary to Amazons own product tech review which says 1080i.Can you imagine my disbelief when i hooked up the player to my samsung plasma tv through hdmi and saw a grainy picture with the words 576p in the corner.I looked in the manual and it clearly states 576p up conversion which can be attained by component leads on dvd players and recorders from the 90’s. This in effect makes the hdmi connection useless and is not even worth using as you can get the same 576p upconversion through the players own component connection. I can only assume samsung wanted to save money by opting out of 1080i output and still fool customers into thinking this budget player was up there with the big boys but it is not. Let this be a warning to you, make sure any hdmi output device is hd capable which means it can at least output a 1080i signal otherwise do not disgrace your shiny new hd ready tv with such an inferior outdated product. I exchanged mine and got a sony RDR-HXD860 in my opinion one of the best on the market, beautiful picture upscaling abilities.
