Choosing the right external enclosure is not an easy thing to do, especially if you don’t exactly know what you’re looking for. There are so many products that look alike, and price seems to be the only obvious differentiator. Yet differences can be found when it comes to reliability. We urge people with important or critical data to consider spending a little extra on a high quality (passive) model. Passive models offer several advantages over fan cooled models - they are completely sealed so will never collect internal dust or be damaged from a liquid spill. They are also SILENT in operation and used in sound recording studio’s for this reason. Even inexperienced users can easily use this product, there are no drivers to install - simply add your own standard 3.5 inch disk drive - this unit takes both SATA II and IDE disk drives. If you are using a new disk you will need to format it before use. Because the unit is maintenance free it carries an extended 3 year warranty, we are also delighted to see an industry leading 2 amp power adaptor supplied with this product making this unit suitable for very large power hungry 1TB (1000GB) disks. The weight of the heatsink alone is over 550g (over half a kilo) and is up to 7mm thick giving the heatsink powerful cooling performance and a very solid feel.

Customer Review: Purchase this device at your own peril
Note - the only reason why this doesn’t receive 0 stars in my review is because Amazon doesn’t provide this option. Having read many favourable reviews of this device I ordered this and spent most of the last week consolidating all my data collected over the years and stored on many different devices onto this one device. The convenience of having all my data, records, photos, documents in one secure place was supposed to be ideal. Job Done. Or so I thought. That was, until the device died on me last night. No amount of tender loving care, calls to technical support or anything will revive it. My only option was to send this drive back (already loaded with hundreds of GBytes of personal and company data) back to Seagate where they will take a look at it and see if it can be fixed. Not on your life !!! So, considering the review before me also had a problem with the device suddenly dying, then buy this at your own peril !!!!
Customer Review: Very pretty, absolutely useless
Loaded software, ran one back up, and it died. I’m not at all impressed with this - particularly as its not cheap. Very poor performance
