Customer Review: Wow, its a bit noisy!
I bought one of these and am presently using it to backup my Mac and PC Laptop. On the insides it sounds like its two 3.5″ disks spinning up, and I have managed to format it into 2 partitions, one windows and on mac. One issue with this though is the cooling fan, its pretty noisy and I certainly wouldnt want to hear this all day every day. It kicks on and off almost continually during use. Admittedly its being thrashed at the moment (700GB backup) but it is very loud for what its doing. If all your using this for is to do occastional backups (like me) then great, however if its to be plugged into your machine 24/7 I would look for something quieter.
Customer Review: Failed…..miserably
I recently purchased this drive. I had owned the product for around ten weeks (two of which I was away on holiday) and it received only light use, some days I didn’t even switch it on. True to form I succumbed to the temptation of utilizing this vast amount of space by copying over as much photo, music and document files from the several other external hard drives that I owned simply for the convenience of having as much data as possible in one place but the primary use was to back up the laptop I use for photo editing and music production, two activities that consume copious amounts of hard disc space. A few days ago the drive apparently ceased to work for no other reason other than being switched on and awaiting transfer of data from my laptop. I contacted the Lacie web support which offered some basic advise on whether the power supply was faulty or not but went on to suggest that I return it via the reseller for warranty repair. Further to this I was informed that the repair process doesn’t retain data on drives and that if I wished to recover my data I should send the drive in to a professional recovery company before sending the drive in for repair. A number of websites of such data recovery firms where offered but the sting in the tail is that if I were to send the drive to a data recovery service the warranty will be voided. I would have thought that a reputable manufacturer of data storage products would include data recovery as a standard procedure in their repair service so as to avoid a situation whereby the warranty is voided by a third party. This should be considered by manufacturers as minimum compensation for the inconvenience of having to return the item to the reseller at ones own expense, having to wait while the fault is being diagnosed and repaired and being sold an unreliable product in the first place. Fortunately most of the data stored on my failed drive was copied from other sources but I’m sure that I would have lost some files that have been moved directly from my laptop since owning the Lacie.

I have had the WD MyBook for over a year now and despite it being a bit bulky (and sometimes noisy), it hasn’t had any problems so far. One might doubt its performance looking at the average build quality, but it is a decent, fast enough storage solution for home.

I only use this occasionally, and over time, it has developed a tendency to resist cold start. I think there’s an issue with the “button” on the front panel, it may be a bit “sticky”. Anyway, to get it going I follow (something like) the following procedure. As you can see, it’s a bit of a faff: 1) Power it up stand-alone, USB not connected. 2) Press the RIGHT HAND side of the front panel button and hold it for about 5 seconds. It will either switch itself off or on. Press the LEFT HAND side of the front panel button to “disengage” the switch. 3) When it appears to be on, and staying on, you’ll hear it spin up and rattle shortly. Then try the USB. If the PC fails to connect to it, disconnect the USB and return to (2), powering it down for about 5 seconds. 4) After use, immediately unplug the USB. Also, since there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to defrag the drive, I suspect that its performance will deteriorate further over time.

You’ll notice from the photo provided to advertise this product that it shows the phone in the holder - that’s fine - it does fit. You also see the charger supplied. This is also fine - it charges the phone. What you will not see is the phone in its cradle complete with attached charger. That’s because the left-hand ‘foot’ in the phone cradle, obscures the power input socket, meaning that you cannot simultaneously have the phone on charge and in the holder - bit of a design fault that!! The kit also comes with 2 possible mounts for the cradle; a decent suction mount, and a stick-on mount which has a ridiculous spring-loaded hinge. The sheer weighht of the phone invariably pulls this cradle to its lowest point within seconds making it unusable as a holder. Not a good product - don’t buy one!!

I bought mine about 3 months ago… I’m still learning new things about it. I found it difficult to figure out how to put music on it and still am unsure about how to take music off of it. Then for some reason it wouldn’t work but iTunes managed to wipe it and fix it, it works brilliantly now.

The battery life on this thing is amazing - I was on my way home from Nottingham about 2 weeks ago and when I first left there the battery was red yet for the entire 3 hour journey it was still the same - it didn’t run out and it didn’t need charging until a few days later.

I love the awesome green colour - I ordered a pink and green one to see which one I preferred and the green one is definatly better but the memory on this thing is also phenominal - much better then my old mp3 player which has completly died on me after a year… it couldn’t hold as much music - it didn’t have the games and photos and other things on it and it was very difficult to understand how it worked - so my ipod is a huge step up and I only got it for ?100. Was a bargin!!!

We have owned 3 DS lites and all 3 have developed the same stress crack, in the same spot, all within 2-3 months of owning them. The first one cracked enough to render the unit unplayable. The same has happened to friends of ours. While kids will be kids, my kids certainly aren’t playing touch football with their DSs. There are dozens of websited dedicated to this problem (just takes a little Googling), some attribute it to overtightening during manufacturing. Nintendo will not cover this repair under warranty but will be nice enough to reduce the $75 repair fee to $50. So when choosing a Nintendo DS Lite, ask yourself if you want a brighter screen or a sturdier unit. My 7 year old son who is on his 2nd DS Lite has just asked if he could have the original one for Christmas. Comment Comments (14) | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? What is a phone for? Calling and texting. This phone is uncomplicated, with no unnecessary sophostications. No camera, no MP3 player no radio etc.

Just a nice practical, easy-to-use phone with a colour screen. Also has some amusing ringtones.

The only minor irritation is that the on/off switch is a standard button on the keypad, so you can accidentally turn the phone on while it’e in your pocket.

But I thihk for the money it’s fabulous, hance 5 stars!

Customer Review: Great Value Starter Phone
No camera, wap or gimmicks just a good basic phone. Very light, and an easy to use menu which can display how to use most features. Screen colour is good and can be easily customised, also has three games, incoming MMS, and a speaking clock.
The only faults are the ringing volume isn't the loudest compared to other phones, and it feel quite cheap, which is why I haven't given it the full 5 stars, but an ideal phone if you only need something as a back up, or if you are just not bothered about all the fancy stuff.
