Customer Review: good piece of equipment with some flaws
Bought this version 4 weeks ago for my Ipaq 3870. Set up was easy and streight forward with the installation wizard but I don’t know what would have happened if I had run into trouble as the installation manual is more than sparse. However I noticed some problems when I used the navigation system. Most annoyingly it kept crashing on a regular basis when I started TomTom and I had to reset my PDA almost every single time before I was able to have a route calculated (this was described by several reviews before). However after some time I found that it stopped crashing when I made sure that I closed TomTom properly before I switched off my PDA. This also reduced greatly the time the PDA needed to log onto the receiver (2 second max.).
TomTom has some great features and properties to set up the software to your personal needs. Particuliar the alternative route options and “advanved properties” are quiet useful. Re-calculating a route after detouring is very swift. However the software has some up-to-date problems and occas. route calculations are a bit bizarre.
Be careful if you think about buying a USED VERSION OF TomTom3!
They let you register their product only ones and you might find that they reject the product licence number of your second hand bought kit (see TommTom.com).
Delivery by Amazon was prompt in the past but the TomTom3 took 4 weeks longer than promissed and I am still waiting for the car kit to be delivered. Might be quicker if you order it somewhere else!
Would I buy it again? Don’t know! It’s working alright now but still think the software should not crash that easily.

As the other review says; this isn’t the most aesthetic of items and the proof of the pudding will only come when I eventually drop the phone but for only a couple of quid compared to some of the leather jobs with bad reviews sold on Amazon I have to say I’m delighted.
Customer Review: Way better than the hard plastic alternative
Bought this as an alternative to a case that wraps around the whole phone, or those leather / neoprene affairs that split eventually and offer very little protection for the screen. Fitting this to the phone is easy, just drop it into the bottom half of the case, then slide the top half on. The two halves are held together by a thin line of plastic set into the silicon, which i did have initial reservations about, but has held together well. The case does add a small amount of width because of two thicker ridges of silicon running down the sides, but these act as excellent bumpers for the inevitable moment when you drop your phone and do add good overall grip when making calls. All the major buttons are still accessible and easy to use as the manufacturers have placed slightly harder sections of plastic over them which don’t impair use at all, the infrared still works fine through the case as well. The fit around the camera lens is perfect but the sliding switch to open the lens cover is slightly restricted when closing, not really a problem though and it does stop accidental opening. The silicon also adds a small amount of thickness to the area around the screen which does protect it if you place it face down, but it does not cover the screen at all so i have used this case in conjunction with peel off screen protectors and found this a good pairing. There is a cut out in the side of the case to allow access to the memory card, but the silicon is a little too thick to get to the cover without removing the case first. Again not a problem if, like me, you install your memory card once and never have any real need to remove it as i just use the usb cable supplied for file transfers anyway. The slide action works perfectly in both directions and the two halves of the phone are not forced apart in any way as is the case with some other products. However i often carry the phone in my pocket and the only gripe i do have about the case, hence the 4 star rating, is that silicon is very grippy and holds on to the inside of pockets very well. I have found that one half of the case can catch on the lining of clothes and cause the slide to open accidentally, especially on a phone that slides in both directions. Again something that can be adapted to though. All in all an excellent product that protects the phone extremely well while not impairing any of its functions.

I bought this recorder, and was initially very pleased. Set up was simple, and actually recording couldn’t be easier. Unfortunately the machine I had could not keep synch with the picture and audio in high quality mode, and also suffered some glitches in the 2 hour setting. I may have been unlucky to get a faulty machine, but after wasting many discs I could not recommend this model.

Nice box, nice manual, easy to set up, recorded and played back from the HDD, played music CD’s and picture CDs but would not recognize pre-recorded DVD’s (correct Region) or the blank DVD-R included in the box. LiteOn support answered promptly but could suggest nothing more to try and the unit was returned to the supplier XSONLY who arranged collection and have now refunded payment. I did expect a replacement unit rather than a refund so I’ll have to re-order.

The user interface is one of the worst I have ever had the misfortune to use. 4 separate button presses and 40 sec wait to get to a Freeview channel from standby. The 7 day EPG takes 7 minutes to load - for each channel!!! Persistent random freezes and hangs. Totaly unusable. Returned to supplier within a week.

As with other reviews this looks great on paper but doesn’t live up to its billing, especially in the DTV area - continually freezing, loss of digital channels, etc. At first only occasionally, but recently it happens all the time. Per the warranty sheet I called Goodies Enterprise who told me they no longer support these machines if they are bought from Amazon, and that Amazon themselves will support them. I wonder if Amazon know this, as there appears to be no technical support pages or contacts on the web site. The callback facility just gets you through to a non-technical call centre in the USA. They arranged a replacement and hopefully this will work a little better, but the lack of support is worrying.

The record quality is very good with 5 quality options. To get a 2 hour film onto a 4.7gb DVD the quality setting needs to be on SP (The middle setting) and the reproduction is as good, if not better than the original. The 80Gb Hard drive is ample for fast recording and transfer to DVD, but if you are looking for a unit to store your favorite films on, look for one with a larger hard drive. The control facilities are better than some DVD players, they include Fast forward up to 80x and fast backwards also. The audio is supoosed to be 5.1 but my particular machine has an audio problem. I get sound for around 1 hour after power up and then it disappears until disconnected from the power for 1 hour. I have contacted Mustek and they have told me to return it to the factory at my own expense for assesment and to include the purchase receipt. This was a Christmas gift so I have no receipt. I will probably scrap this and Buy a Panasonic or something that has a better after sales service. A pity because all round the machine it self is well worth owning as long as there are no manufacturing faults with it.
Customer Review: Cheap and cheerful HDD/DVD recorder
It’s an HDD recorder, it’s a DVD recorder, and right now, it’s 120 quid. That’s a pretty tempting proposition. But the example that I bought has had a few problems. On my old TV, I had a lot of trouble with crackly sound (only from this player, not from any other source) though since changing TV’s, the problem has gone away. More annoyingly, the discs that this player was burning all had CRC errors on them, making them impossible to edit on the PC. I’ve downloaded and installed a firmware update from Mustek’s website, and (touch wood) that issue seems to have been resolved. Be aware that firmware upgrades are not without risk, and Mustek’s website expressly says that any units which die during a firmware upgrade will not be covered by their warranty. The interface is pretty clunky. Many of the buttons won’t do what you’d expect them to when you’d expect them to. For example if you stop the DVD disc and try to switch to HDD it won’t let you. You have to have pressed stop twice before it will let you switch. This can all get pretty frustrating, and I wouldn’t expect anyone who’s not ‘technically savvy’ to be able to get to grips with it. If you’re expecting to record stuff to HDD then edit onto DVD (cutting out the adverts for example) then be prepared for a disappointment. This unit is nowhere near that clever. Dubbing from HDD to DVD is really just a straight copy. If you want to do anything clever with the results, then you’ll need to manipulate it on your PC afterwards using the likes of VobBlanker and DVDShrink. If your budget will stretch, then buy a better model. If it won’t, and you don’t mind odd quirks and firmware upgrades, then this unit is a lot better thn nothing at all.

The item comes as a split-charge stand for the phone as you see in the picture, not with a charging-cable so if you are ordering this as an extra charger, you’ll also need to order a triple-pin 240v charger. The idea of it’s great and if you’re going to use the phone as a web-cam or video-phone on a regular basis, probably very handy. Works great as a seperate battery-charger, limited usage for the phone-stand other than the above. Good value for money but no lead to plug it in so bear that in mind when ordering.

I have been a phone sales consultant for many years. I also custom build high-end gaming computers. With the combined telecomms and hardware knowledge i have i can tell you that this phone is as good as a mid-priced laptop. Except of course it fits in your pocket, its a phone and and the battery lasts days not mins. i have had many phones in my time but nothing remotely as powerful as the nokia n95! 5MP camera is really gd and video quality its above average. GPS and wi-fi make this phone unique. a lot of people slate the battery time saying its rubbish but i have to disagree. i have only had the phone a week and only had to charge it once! the first charge should allways be about 10-14 hours for best results. i really cant complain! i had a sony ericsson k800i before this and its not a patch on the N95!

I’d just like to add my sixpence to what’s been written about the ipod classic.

I was concerned about what the sound quality would be like after reading what others have written.

I am a musician, having played the drums for around 16 years now. I’ve done hundreds of gigs and consider myself to have an ear for a good sound. I listen to all styles of music from jazz and classical to heavy metal and electro house. I too like a good sound from my audio gear - I have specialist speakers hooked up to my hifi and am quite fussy with the graphic equaliser, having a particular set up that I like.

So let me say this - having uploaded a handful of varied songs and plugging in the standard supplied headphones that come with the iPod I switched it on…. and was not disappointed!

The sound quality is infinitely better than that of my previous mp3 player - it’s good! Yes, the lack of a user definable EQ set up is a slight bug bear… but I managed to find three setups that were good for me, one being quite close to what I would have punched in anyway. I think people are overreacting with the sound issue… I also think it’s a matter of what people get used to and then being given something a bit different. The sound is quite bright and I did notice that, through the standard headphones, the bottom end does distort a little… but plugging the iPod into my Hifi soon reassured me that it was just the headphones and not an inherent problem with the iPod - the sound coming out of the speakers was rich, fat and well balanced. Overall, it’s a slick piece of equipment with a huge hard drive and high build quality - well worth the ?150 I paid for it.

Maybe Apple’s problem is that they’ve been too good for too long and people expect extremely (maybe unreasonably) high standards from them now.

It’s a great machine, certainly not a disappointment.

No longer supported by Icy, and I’m not surprised. It needed rebooting every day to be able to connect to it, now refuses to identify any drive that’s put in it. 6 months of hassle is now over as I’ve binned it. Good riddance.
